Army Information Technology Specialist (MOS 25B) - Operation Military Kids (1)

Army Information Technology Specialists handle Information Technology (IT).

IT is related to anything to do with computing technology including networking, hardware, software, and the Internet.

Therefore, already having a passion for computer systems will go a long way in your preparation for becoming MOS 25B.

Education

Like all of the other MOS in the Army, you’re required to have a high school diploma or GED to enlist.

In order to qualify for MOS 25B you will need to have passed high school algebra.

Additionally, you must complete the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB).

If you are interested in becoming an Information Technology Specialist (25B MOS) you must score Skilled Technical: 95 on the ASVAB.

Qualifications

After scoring higher than Skilled Technical: 95 on the ASVAB you will need to receive military security clearance of secret level.

Since the information you will have access to as MOS 25B is highly sensitive and could affect national security, the background check for an aspiring Army Information Technology Specialist is intense.

Additionally, you may have to conduct personal interviews with Department of Defense personnel.

Training

Training to join the U.S. Army includes boot camp for all new enlistees.

Basic Combat Training (BCT) lasts 10 weeks.

Then, you will progress to Advanced Individual Training.

AIT for an Army IT Specialist is 20 weeks long and combines classroom instruction with on-the-job training.

You will learn computer systems concepts on several different consoles and peripheral equipment.
